the PLUR FAX--- (happy new year!!!)
yo fkn party class 101--- what is PLUR anyway ?? i got this from wikipedia..
PLUR or PLURR is an acronym that stands for "Peace Love Unity Respect", a credo or mantra[1] of the rave culture. Many in the rave scene have heard this term at sometime or another, although its common usage is relatively recent. Early 1990s and mid-1980s ravers often followed similar principles, but did not use this coinage to describe their beliefs. It may be interpreted as the way that a raver believes he or she should live his or her life, and how people are expected to behave at a rave. This philosophy of the rave culture often takes precedence over any chemical aspects of the rave scene.[2]
PLUR can also be viewed as a more mainstream variant of its predecessor LPE (Love Peace Ecstasy), because it removes the drug reference. LPE was mainly used in Europe in the early 1990s, when the rave scene became a youth subculture.
Defined
- Peace - Hostility typically serves no purpose other than to defend an ego that is lacking inner peace.
- Love - Acts and feelings of goodwill towards all others are a moral imperative with their own rewards.
- Unity - This can mean either that:
- We are all united in the human condition, or
- As social beings, the feeling of connectedness with others is the ultimate end to our efforts.
- Respect - A person must show regard for the feelings of others through their actions and inaction.
And one must have respect for oneself.
Origins
According to legend, the term PLUR was coined by the DJ Frankie Bones in response to a fight that broke out while he was mixing and he stopped the show to say, "If you don't start showing some peace, love, and unity, I'll break your fucking faces."
(ps hahaha that is soooooo funny )
However it wasn't until later on, in discussions of the speech on the usenet newsgroup alt.rave, that "Respect" was added to the Peace, Love and Unity to create the now ubiquitous acronym P.L.U.R.
PLUR can find its roots in the mid 80's with the acid house movement in the UK. at these parties there would be visuals repeating the words "Peace, Love, Unity" with that there was an acid house DJ named Frankie Knuckles who started PLUM the Peace Love Unity Movement. It wasn't until after Frankie Bones' Storm Rave that it evolved into PEACE LOVE UNITY and RESPECT.
[edit] Alternate versions
P.L.U.R.R: Many ravers will also add the words "Responsibility" (due to bad publicity and negative connotations of drug misuse that occurred in the rave scene during the mid to late 90s), "Kindness", "Understanding" and/or "Honor" at the end.
There are also several versions that use the word "Rave" in the acronym. The two most common are Peace, Love, Unity, Rave and Please Let Us Rave.
(please let us rave is awesome...culd also be others like, please let us riot, please let us rap.....)
These alternate versions are typically used with the more known version, that is to say, ravers are aware of the other versions, and aren't in factions over the variants. PLUR means each of these at once.
There are also several parodies of this phrase including: People Look Ugly Rolling, Please Let Us Roll, People Lost in Unobtainable Realities, and others...
